At the age of 14, Barry Schwartz started RustyBrick.com and began website building in 1994.[14]

On 2 December 2003, Schwartz founded the "Rusty Brick Weblog" that would later evolve into Search Engine Roundtable.[15] The publication covers Search engine news and updates from Google Search, Microsoft Bing and other platforms.

Schwartz became a news correspondent at Search Engine Watch, in February 2006.[16] Then in December 2011, when founder Danny Sullivan (technologist) left Search Engine Watch, Schwartz followed, becoming a founding staff member of Search Engine Land alongside Chris Sherman. [17] A prolific journalist, during 2022 Schwartz celebrated 19 years of writing for search news publications, contributing "around 40,000" articles.[18][19]

Schwartz received an award for Search Personality of the Year at the US Search Awards in 2018.[20]

In 2022 Schwartz founded a news site, LucidInsider.com, which covers the electric car company Lucid Motors.[21] In the same year, he was spotlighted in a Google Search podcast series as someone "from the larger Search Marketing community who inspires" in a Search of the Record podcast interview. [22]
