Sara Zofia Egwu-James (born 10 June 2008) is a Polish singer and songwriter.[1][2][3] She won the fourth series of the Polish talent show The Voice Kids and represented Poland at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "Somebody", finishing as a runner-up. James was also a finalist in the 17th season of America's Got Talent in 2022.

She released her debut studio album, Playhouse, in 2024.

Early life and education

Sara James was born to a Polish mother Arleta Dancewicz, and a Nigerian father of Igbo extraction, John James Egwu.[4] Her father, who is also a singer, performed in Bitwa na głosy (English: Clash of the Choirs) as a member of a choir mentored by Polish rapper Mezo,[5] and later also formed a duet Loui & John[6] featured in the Polish breakfast show Dzień Dobry TVN.[7] James has three siblings: Michelle James, John James Junior and Jakub Dancewicz.[8]

She graduated from a primary school in Ośno, Poland, as well as a first degree music school in Słubice in 2022, where she learned to play the piano.[9]

Career

James started singing when she was six years old and took part in a Christmas carols festival in Szczecinek, Poland, which she won.[10] In 2020, she came third in the World Talent Show, and was awarded a Silver Microphone in the final of the Lubuski Song Festival "Pro Arte".[11]

In 2021, she took part in the fourth edition of The Voice Kids, in which she successfully passed through all the elimination stages on to the final, eventually winning by receiving the highest number of votes from the viewers.[citation needed] In September 2021, she participated in the Polish talent show Szansa na Sukces, which selects the Polish representative at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Having qualified to the final round, she performed her song "Somebody" for which she received the most votes from both viewers and jurors and went on to represent Poland at Junior Eurovision.[12]

On 19 December 2021, she performed at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in which she came in second place with 218 points (102 points from online voting and 116 points from the jury),[13] six points behind the Armenian representative, Maléna, who was voted the winner.[14]

In 2022, she auditioned for the 17th season of America's Got Talent.[15] Her performance resonated with the judges and led Simon Cowell to push the Golden Buzzer, sending James directly to the live shows.[16][17] She proceeded to make it to the finals but was eliminated when the top five contestants were announced.

In 2023, she appeared on the show's spin off, America's Got Talent: All-Stars.

In 2024, she did a guest performance on the season 19 of America's Got Talent where she sang "Sunshine State of Mind" during the semifinals result show while Sofie Dossi did her aerial and hand-standing performances.

James released her debut studio album, Playhouse, on 8 November 2024.
